Spices and botanicals

Dried spice is one of the easier categories to begin with, because the goods are stable and order sizes are smaller than for grain. What decides whether a supplier is workable is consistency between the sample and the shipment, and documentation that satisfies United Kingdom food safety requirements on arrival.

What to specify when you enquire

A supplier can only price what you have described. The more of this you put in the first message, the faster a usable quotation comes back.

  • Whole, split, sliced or ground
  • Moisture content, and for ginger the oil content
  • Sieve or particle size where ground
  • Whether steam sterilised material is required
  • Pesticide residue and heavy metal testing requirements

Tell us what you need to source
